What is the Eurovision Big Five?
France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom have guaranteed places in the Eurovision Grand Final. Together they are known as the Big Five.

Do the Big Five compete in the Semi-Finals?
No. Under the Eurovision 2027 public rules, the five Big Five broadcasters have guaranteed Grand Final places. They therefore do not need to qualify through a Semi-Final.
Does the host country automatically qualify too?
Yes. The Host Broadcaster also receives a guaranteed place in the Grand Final. For Eurovision 2027, Bulgaria is the host country, so the normal six guaranteed places are the Big Five plus Bulgaria.
How many countries can be in the Eurovision Grand Final?
The 2027 public rules allow a maximum of 26 countries in the Grand Final. With six guaranteed places, the usual route fills the remaining 20 places with ten qualifiers from each Semi-Final.
Why are they called the Big Five?
The term refers to five long-standing major EBU broadcasters whose countries have guaranteed Grand Final places under the Contest rules. The practical rule that matters to viewers is simple: those five entries go directly to Saturday's final.
Can the guaranteed-place format change?
The public rules state that the number of guaranteed Grand Final places may be adjusted by the EBU in consultation with the Reference Group when circumstances require it. The standard 2027 framework is the Big Five plus the Host Broadcaster.
