Ireland wins Eurovision for the first time

Dana won Amsterdam 1970 with “All Kinds Of Everything”, giving Ireland its first Eurovision victory. Mary Hopkin finished second for the United Kingdom and Katja Ebstein placed third for Germany.

New tie-break rules and the first postcards

After the four-way tie of 1969, Eurovision introduced a new procedure for resolving a tied first place. Dutch broadcaster NOS also introduced the pre-performance postcard films that later became a permanent part of the Contest format.
