Australia has begun its search for a representative at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. On 14 October, broadcaster SBS confirmed that its Song Portal is returning, inviting performers to express interest and songwriters to submit original material for consideration.
What to know
- SBS Song Portal accepts submissions from 17 October to 7 November 2026.
- Australia's Eurovision 2027 act and song will be selected internally by SBS.
- Songs must be at most three minutes, include an Australian citizen among the writers, and meet the 1 September 2026 release cutoff.
The submission window opens on Saturday 17 October and closes on Saturday 7 November 2026. The portal is a route for musicians to be considered, not a public vote or a guarantee of selection. SBS will make the final decision internally.
SBS says it wants distinctive, contemporary songs with the potential to connect with an international audience. Artists may register their interest in performing for Australia, while songwriters can offer an original composition for the broadcaster to assess.
The broadcaster has outlined three headline rules for songs: they cannot exceed three minutes; at least one member of the writing team must be an Australian citizen; and the entry must not have been publicly released or performed, even in part, before 1 September 2026. Applicants should consult the full SBS rules before submitting.
The return of the portal does not mean that a televised edition of Eurovision – Australia Decides has been announced. For 2027, SBS explicitly describes its approach as an internal selection, and it has not yet named the artist or song or announced a reveal date.
Australia's recent Eurovision history spans very different sounds, from Voyager and Electric Fields to Go-Jo and Delta Goodrem. SBS presents the open portal as an opportunity to consider what musical direction the country should take next at the 2027 contest in Burgas, Bulgaria.
The announcement also coincides with SBS confirming coverage of the first Eurovision Song Contest Asia in Bangkok on 14 November 2026. Australia will not compete in that event, but SBS plans to show it with commentary from Courtney Act. For Australia's Eurovision 2027 hopefuls, the immediate deadline remains 7 November.
