France wins, but Volare becomes the enduring hit

André Claveau won Hilversum 1958 for France with “Dors Mon Amour”. Italy's third-placed “Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu”, better known as “Volare”, went on to become one of the most internationally successful songs ever associated with Eurovision.

Sweden joins Eurovision

Sweden made its Eurovision debut in 1958 and finished fourth with Alice Babs and “Lilla Stjärna”. The Netherlands hosted after winning the previous Contest, helping establish the winner-hosting tradition associated with Eurovision.
