The Netherlands becomes Eurovision's first two-time winner

Teddy Scholten won Cannes 1959 with “Een Beetje”, giving the Netherlands a second victory after Corry Brokken's 1957 win and making it the first country to win Eurovision twice.

Monaco makes its debut

Monaco joined Eurovision in 1959, while the United Kingdom returned after sitting out the 1958 Contest. Eleven countries competed in Cannes.
