BURGAS 2027 · SOFIA CONNECTION
Sofia to Burgas for Eurovision 2027
Sofia is one of the main international gateways in the Burgas 2027 transport concept. If your flight or wider Bulgaria trip brings you through the capital, compare the whole Sofia → Burgas journey by rail, domestic flight or coach — including the final transfer and show-night buffer, not only the headline travel time.

The official Eurovision Host City guide places Burgas roughly 400 kilometres from Sofia. The best mode is therefore the one that gives you the strongest door-to-door plan for your actual arrival time, luggage and ticketed shows.
| Mode | Strongest fit | Main advantage | Verify before booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| Train | A city-centre-to-city-centre journey when the current BDZ timetable fits your arrival and departure plan. | Avoids an extra airport process and arrives at Burgas railway station in the city. | The live BDZ timetable, train type, seat availability and any engineering changes for your exact date. |
| Domestic flight | A connection through Sofia Airport or a short transfer when the actual Sofia–Burgas flight schedule lines up well. | The in-air sector is short, and Bulgaria Air has announced increased Sofia–Burgas service around Eurovision 2027. | The published May 2027 schedule, baggage rules, connection buffer and the BOJ airport-to-city transfer after landing. |
| Intercity coach | A timetable or fare alternative when rail and air do not fit the trip you are building. | Can add useful departure-time choice without another flight connection. | The actual operator, departure terminal, arrival point, journey time, luggage policy and refund conditions for your date. |
Sofia to Burgas by train
Eurovision's official Burgas guide specifically highlights strong rail connections between Sofia and Burgas. BDZ operates the national passenger rail network and publishes live journey planning and ticketing on its official site.
The useful planning principle is city-centre to city-centre: Sofia Central Railway Station and Burgas railway station can avoid the extra airport processes that come with a domestic flight. But do not copy today's departure time into a May 2027 itinerary — schedules and engineering work can change.
Sofia to Burgas by domestic flight
Bulgaria Air has announced increased Sofia–Burgas service around Eurovision 2027 in response to expected demand. That makes a domestic flight particularly relevant if you are already connecting through Sofia Airport.
Do not compare only the scheduled flight duration with the train. Add the airport connection, check-in and security buffer, baggage collection at Burgas Airport and the transfer from BOJ into the city before deciding which route is actually faster or easier for you.

Sofia to Burgas by coach
Eurovision notes that Burgas has extensive bus connections. A coach can therefore be worth comparing when its departure time fits your international arrival better than the train or domestic flight.
This page deliberately does not name one commercial operator as the default months before Eurovision week. Check the actual departure terminal, operator, luggage rules, refund conditions and arrival point for the service you are considering.
If you land at Sofia Airport from abroad
Build the transfer as two decisions: first, your international arrival into Sofia; second, the onward Sofia → Burgas leg. A cheap onward ticket is not useful if the connection leaves too little time for immigration where applicable, baggage collection, terminal movement or a delay on the first flight.
If you choose rail or coach after flying into Sofia, include the transfer from the airport to the departure station or terminal. If you choose a domestic flight, check whether your through-ticket or separate tickets change the disruption risk.

Protect your Eurovision show buffer
The live broadcasts are confirmed for 11, 13 and 15 May 2027 at Arena Burgas. If your Sofia → Burgas transfer happens on a ticketed show day, leave enough time after the intercity journey for hotel check-in, local transport and the still-developing Arena entry process.
A full-day or overnight buffer is often easier to manage than a connection that depends on every leg running perfectly. The right buffer depends on your tickets, arrival route and tolerance for disruption.

Compare the real total, not the headline fare
For each mode, include every cost required to complete the route: the train or flight itself, airport/station transfers, baggage charges where relevant, food during the journey and any extra night that a safer connection requires.

Sofia to Burgas FAQ
How far is Sofia from Burgas?
The official Eurovision Host City guide describes Burgas as roughly 400 kilometres from Sofia.
Can I travel from Sofia to Burgas by train?
Yes. Eurovision's Host City guide specifically highlights strong rail connections between Sofia and Burgas. Check the live BDZ timetable for your exact travel date rather than relying on a timetable copied months earlier.
Are there flights from Sofia to Burgas for Eurovision 2027?
Bulgaria Air has announced that it is increasing Sofia–Burgas service in response to expected Eurovision 2027 demand. The exact flight you use should still be confirmed against the airline's current May 2027 schedule before booking.
Is train or flying better from Sofia to Burgas?
It depends on your complete journey. Compare where you start in Sofia, connection time, baggage, airport transfers, arrival time in Burgas and the price you can actually book rather than comparing only the train duration with the flight duration.
Should I travel from Sofia to Burgas on the same day as my Eurovision show?
A same-day transfer creates more risk because a delay can consume your Arena entry buffer. If a ticketed show matters to you, build enough margin for the intercity journey, accommodation check-in, local transport and the final venue-entry process.
