The BBC and BBC Studios have announced how they intend to find the United Kingdom's artist and song for Eurovision 2027 in Burgas. Their 27 October announcement puts the emphasis on a contemporary British performer with proven live experience and a song developed with strong British songwriting and production talent.
What to know
- David May leads the BBC's search with Andrew Cartmell.
- The BBC wants an experienced British live performer and a UK-crafted song.
- No UK artist or song has been confirmed.
The search will be led by UK Eurovision Project Director David May, who managed Sam Ryder during the successful SPACE MAN campaign that finished second in Turin in 2022. May is working with Andrew Cartmell, the United Kingdom's Head of Delegation and executive producer, supported by BBC Music, BBC Introducing and BBC Studios teams.
The BBC has not yet announced a selected artist, song, public ballot, shortlist or launch date for a televised national final. The plans describe an industry-led search rather than a confirmed voting show. Speculative names circulating among fans should not be presented as selected performers.
The United Kingdom has automatic qualification to Eurovision's grand final as one of the Big Five contributors. The final in Burgas is scheduled for 15 May 2027, following the semi-finals on 11 and 13 May. The BBC's next announcement will establish when and how the resulting song and performer will be revealed.
The return of May's experience does not guarantee a particular result, but it clarifies the broadcaster's approach: a strong live act, a professionally written British song and a coordinated selection team. Song Contest Radar will follow official confirmation rather than unverified rumours.
