One of the most visible changes is the minimum performer age. Artists must now be at least 18 years old on the day of their first rehearsal. The public summary for 2026 used a minimum age of 16.
The 2027 rules also spell out circumstances in which a winning broadcaster may be unable to host the following Contest. Safety, security, operational continuity and exceptional geopolitical conditions can all be considered when deciding whether hosting remains viable.
Core song rules remain familiar: entries must be original, may not exceed three minutes and cannot have been publicly released or performed before 1 September 2026 for the 2027 Contest.
The changes matter most for delegations and broadcasters, but fans will notice the new age threshold immediately as national selections begin to publish their own eligibility rules.
