The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced 36 countries for the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 in Burgas, Bulgaria, in a participant-list update dated 28 October 2026. The 71st contest is set to take place at Arena Burgas, with semi-finals scheduled for 11 and 13 May and the Grand Final on 15 May. The country list confirms who is preparing to compete; it is not a list of selected singers or songs.

  • Canada will debut and North Macedonia is returning; Bulgaria hosts its first Eurovision.

Two changes make Burgas 2027 particularly notable. Canada is set to make its Eurovision debut through CBC/Radio-Canada; its artist selection is already under way. North Macedonia returns with broadcaster MRT after an absence since 2022. Bulgaria is the host following DARA's victory with 'Bangaranga' at the Vienna 2026 contest, bringing Eurovision to Bulgaria for the first time.

Canada's debut and North Macedonia's return

The new country count must not be confused with a completed national-selection season. Each broadcaster still has to select an artist and song, whether through a televised final or an internal procedure. Canada's Choice has named five artist finalists and has a public-voting deadline of 5 November 2026; Croatia is preparing Dora 2027, and Ukraine is accepting Vidbir 2027 submissions until 2 November. These selection milestones are separate from the confirmed participant roster.

France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom appear in the 36-country list alongside host Bulgaria. Spain is not among the announced participants, so an automatic Grand Final place should not be assumed for it. The competition's rules outline the Big Five framework, but the number of guaranteed finalists depends on which members actually take part.

Spain, the Netherlands and pending participation decisions

The Netherlands is also absent after NPO reversed its previously announced return on 27 October. The public broadcasting organisation could not find a Dutch broadcaster prepared to take responsibility for an entry; NOS nevertheless intends to televise Eurovision in the Netherlands. Ireland and Czechia have confirmed they will not compete. Absence from the 36-country roster should not automatically be described as a formal withdrawal for other broadcasters without a separate statement.

Some participation questions remain open beyond the list, including those concerning Spain and Slovenia. Song Contest Radar tracks pending decisions separately from confirmed entries, and will update the count only when an official broadcaster or EBU announcement changes the field. At this stage, neither the complete song lineup nor all the national-final dates have been announced.
