Portugal's public broadcaster RTP opened the Festival da Canção 2027 song-submission period on 1 November 2026. Applications close on 30 November. The national final is scheduled for Saturday 6 March 2027, when Portugal's next Eurovision selection process reaches its climax.
What to know
- RTP opened submissions on 1 November; the deadline is 30 November.
- All 16 entries will come from open applications, without invited composers.
- The national final is scheduled for 6 March 2027.
All 16 entries from the open call
In a significant change to recent formats, RTP says all 16 songs in the 2027 competition will be chosen from public submissions. There will be no places reserved for invited composers. The decision makes the open call the common entry route for the competing songs.
The broadcaster's application form allows a maximum of two songs per author or applicant, with each unpublished work limited to three minutes. Portuguese nationals and eligible foreign residents of Portugal may apply under the full rules. RTP will assess the submissions after the deadline; it has not revealed performers or song titles.
The Festival da Canção winner is eligible to represent Portugal at Eurovision 2027 in Burgas. The opening of applications should not be confused with confirmation of an artist or song. The most immediate milestones are the 30 November deadline and the 6 March final.
